When it comes to user research, the choice of research methods is crucial, but the selection of appropriate analysis techniques can be equally impactful. There’s more than just affinity mapping! So often teams struggle to answer research objectives confidently because they haven’t thought about and planned the analysis of their data appropriately. Researchers might be able to pick a relevant research methodology, but then rely on affinity mapping for their analysis every time. While affinity mapping is a wonderful analysis tool, it’s not the only one. Sometimes affinity mapping only takes our analysis to the first level, when we need to go beyond.
This workshop will explore a range of qualitative user research analysis methods, reviewing the pros and cons of each. We will cover the importance of carefully designing your research from start to finish so you can understand and choose the most valuable and appropriate analysis method for the task.
Our aim is to sharpen your research analysis skills by providing you with new approaches, tools, and techniques you can apply to your own work.
At the end of this masterclass you will:
Understand the difference between generative and evaluative research, and which methods belong under each approach
Understand how research objectives influence choice of research method and analysis method
Understand the different types of analysis methods, including the pros and cons and examples of when to use them (separately or in conjunction)
Understand how to design research from beginning to end and have confidence in answering research objectives
Have explored how to use AI in your analysis.
Who is this for?
Open to intermediate researchers and designers, or anyone who relies heavily on affinity mapping
